Flex: New Medical Robot that can access difficult and sensitive locations of the body and perform surgery

Researchers have developed a new Hi-tech robot in the form of a snake that can help doctors in the operating room by performing difficult tasks inside the throat. The robot can slide across the mouth down the throat, which would help in decreasing surgeons’ problems and troubles during surgeries.

Flex is the name given to the robot. Its flexible system is considered as the best for Endoscopic surgical operations, whereby it could slide into areas that are difficult for surgeons to access.

The robot is equipped with a 3D High definition camera to facilitate the vision inside the throat and it is controlled by a joystick. Its unique design allows surgeons to access difficult and sensitive locations of the body by the use of a joystick as a controller and a live video screen that shows Flex’s location instantly.

The project is funded by Private investors and the company has invested by now more than $130 million to fund the project, Bloomberg argues.

In addition to its ability to access hard places and do successful Endoscopic surgical operations, the robot has the ability to heal other diseases. For instance, Flex can be used to remove tumors that can’t be cured by a medical operation, whereby the use of radiation treatment to cure tumors will be decreased.
