A Filipino guy developed a device provides light via a plastic bottle

Though the world knows a unique progression in many fields including tech, transportation and telecommunication, there still a huge number of people living without electricity, internet and even without clean water.  Seriously speaking guys, how can we call it a sophisticated world?

Today’s topic is dedicated to a simple device but beneficial. It is named as ‘liter of light’ and  It was designed by a non-profit organization As of July 2011 and it aims to supply urban areas by electricity.

The project is founded by ‎Illac Diaz. He is from Philippine. His main purpose is to provide free lightening for houses with thin roofs, by the use of bamboo and PET plastic bottles.

The idea is based on installing

“a solar bottle bulb in the roof of homes with the purpose of refracting sunlight in order to light up a room. The project’s innovation lies in its utilization of cheap, durable and readily available materials to produce high quality natural lighting enabling the urban poor to have access to an affordable, environmentally friendly long-term alternative to electric light for use during the day,” quoted from Wikipedia.

The device is so simple and everyone can use it, all you have to get is a 1.5 plastic bottle, fill it with water and add little bleach and the last step is to bulb the bottle in the roof of the room. The water inside the bottle refracts sunlight and the result is light.

In order to make is work at night, Illac says that the solar bottle bulb should be provided by led lamps connected to a small solar panel that transform that small solar energy into light.

You can get one solar bottle by spending around $3, very cheap! while the cost of providing streets with solar bottles is differ from $25 and $30.
