Managing the time we spend in front of the screen of the mobile device is crucial to our health. Over the past decade, the usage of mobile phones started growing among children. Parents, this should activate the warning signals. Luckily, android Os allows you to view screen time without installing any third-party apps.
This will help you have an idea of how much time you spend on your android device. Or you can do it through installing a tracker that enables a lot of features and control. Let’s dig deeper and see which one is better.
We can not deny that the internet has changed many things in our lives. It became very important in my fields, and it has improved many fields. However, it is a challenging task to manage using the mobile phone only in free time and in hours of needs.
Unfortunately, many people use it regularly during the day and night, family meetings, and more, doing nothing but surfing social media networks and playing games, which can totally damage the eyesight and cause serious health problems.
In this tutorial, I will explain how to check, control, and even help you to lower the time that you spend on your smartphone. Always remember that this can’t happen without your help.
Check Screen Time without installing third-party apps
I personally don’t recommend using third-party applications, especially if the feature that it provides already exists. More apps = more ram and battery consumption. We can monitor screen time through the settings. Android has a built-in feature that allows you to track battery usage. From there you can see the time being spent by someone on android.
Here is how to check screen time on your phone:
- Go to settings and then to device maintenance.
- Battery -> Battery usage
- Locate “screen” and click on it. (look at the screenshot)
From there, you will see how much time you spend on your android device.
Note: This screen shows the battery usage data since the phone was fully charged.
The steps may vary from a smartphone to another depending on the android version, but always remember that you can do it through power usage.
Hint: You can adjust power use by reducing screen brightness and screen timeout.
Install Screen Time Tracker
If your phone has enough space and Ram capacity, then you can install a third-party app to do the work.
My recommendation is Screen Time because it allows you to track screen time and app usage on a daily and weekly basis. It also permits you to limit usage as per category. In addition to this, you will have the ability to add important apps to the ‘allowed list’. Apps that are whitelisted will not be restricted.
The app will allow you to set a daily duration limit for each application or, and you can set a different duration for each day, such as on weekends.
You will receive a notification when you reach the limits. By doing so, you will have better control of the time you spend on your device. This will increase productivity and help you focus on important things.
Obviously, using the Screen Time app to track screen usage is very helpful than using the built-in feature ‘Power Usage’ due to the variety of options that it offers. It can help you control and check the time that your kids should spend on their phones. This will help you keep an eye on what is running on your kids’ mobile.
If you want to be strict with your kids and limit their phone usage without being rude with them, then you should install FamilyTime in their devices. The app will lock their phones at certain times especially bedtime, dinner time, and homework. You have to apply the settings.
As I said above, reducing time on the mobile screen is very important for your kids’ health and productivity, and for you as parents as it can help you control your behavior way better.
